Gynecologic cancers are understudied in general, especially Black experiences of such cancers. This engaged research brings together oncologists, researchers, survivors, quality improvement entities. Our focus groups with Black gynecologic cancer survivors aim to identify possible factors at various stages (i.e., diagnosis, treatment) that might inform future interventions to address disparities in survival.

This project resulted in over a million dollars in external funding and about 100 publications, including 9 books. Research topics include immigration law, new immigrant destinations, immigration and employment, the history of asylum seekers, immigration in the US as a Christian nation, and immigrant integration.

This project seeks to understand the conditions under which Latin American politicians at the highest levels of power are held accountable after accusations of corruption arise. By focusing on the Odebrecht scandal, this project emphasizes the role of the strategies of politicians and political parties.

As brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) become more mainstream in the market, it is essential to consider the ethical implications for individuals and society as a whole. While BCIs have the potential to revolutionize the treatment of cognitive and sensory motor conditions, they also introduce pressing ethical issues around values such as autonomy and agency, dignity, privacy and security, and fairness. In my PhD dissertation, I aim to develop a comprehensive understanding of the ethics of commercial BCI in four parts: 1) exploring the production of commercial BCIs, 2) analyzing the technology and applications of BCIs, 3) examining ethical and conceptual issues, and 4) developing policy considerations for BCIs.

Our team examined the jury trial’s introduction in Neuquén, Argentina, by collecting data (questionnaires, interviews, and focus groups) from judges, lawyers, and jurors. From legal actors’ experiences, we are learning how citizens’ participation in jury trials has led to fundamental changes in trial procedures.

This study asks whether and how the genealogical imaginaries created by Israeli Family Constellation facilitators and participants and Polish-Israeli hometown association activists create alternative genealogical imaginaries, and how these imaginaries affirm, transform or resist dominant modes of belonging in Israeli society, which are usually nationalized.

The funding enabled Harrison to (1) subscribe to a Zoom-compatible transcription service, and (2) will assist with future expenses associated with primary resource and document acquisition, by mail and in-person. This research will be presented at the 2021 Society for Social Studies of Science meeting and in Ms. Harrison’s forthcoming dissertation.

How do people fulfill their attachment needs across people in their networks, and how do people also meet the needs of others in their network? Proposed studies test novel hypotheses on how reciprocated ties confer unique benefits for individuals (security), dyads (satisfaction), and networks (status).
