Sara | Bronin | City and Regional Planning | historic preservation local la | People interact with preservation law predominantly at the local level, through historic commissions that opine on proposed rehab projects. My research will identify where historic districts have been adopted and explore how rates of adoption change from state to state depending on various independent variables. |

Francine | Barchett | Natural Resources | human dimensions of tourism hu | This ethnographic case study centers on the operations of 2 tourist hunting camps in Mozambique and Cameroon. Set apart by their high biodiversity, vast acreage, and the small number of wealthy, predominantly American clients they attracts, this work can provide insights on tourist hunting, among the most controversial conservation topics of the 21st century. The tourist hunting industry accounts for 5x more conservation land than national parks in Sub-Saharan Africa, has been an economic incentive for conservation, and is a chosen livelihood tool by some communities through the community-based natural resource management model. Through observations, interviews, and immersion, my research will probe the links between communities, clients, and companies involved in tourist hunting, their relationships to the land, and day-to-day community experiences and perceptions. This informs my broader dissertation, which employs a human dimensions of wildlife lens to probe the sustainability and resilience of the tourist hunting industry in Sub-Saharan Africa. |
