This mixed-methods project examines how immigrants granted temporary protected status (TPS) in the United States respond to their experience of legal limbo. Through analysis of census, survey and administrative data, we are researching how TPS impacts educational and labor market outcomes. Through interviews with 100 immigrants in New York City, we are also assessing how TPS shapes immigrants’ experiences at work, their ability to contest workplace abuses, and their sense of belonging and long-term goals for themselves and their children in the United States.
