Amada Armenta

Amada Armenta was the 2011-2012 Postdoctoral Associate with the ISS Immigration Theme Project. She graduated in June 2011 with a Ph.D. from the Department of Sociology at the University of California, Los Angeles, where she specialized in the areas of international migration, race/ethnicity, and qualitative methods. Her dissertation, “Policing Immigrants: The Local Dilemmas of Immigration Enforcement,” examined the politics and implementation of the 287(g) program, an interior immigration enforcement strategy, in Nashville, Tennessee. Armenta’s next project, which will focus on the interconnections between U.S. immigration enforcement policies and Mexican emigrant policies, will contribute to inquiry in the areas of citizenship and belonging.
